Vol. 270 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Pigs and Bacon Commission.

37.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries the position with regard to the future of the Pigs and Bacon Commission under EEC conditions.

On our accession to the European Communities the bacon curing industry and the farm organisations agreed to maintain the centralisation of pigmeat exports through the Pigs and Bacon Commission on a voluntary basis. I hope this situation will continue. Other functions of the commission, such as those relating to the grading and insurance of pigs, will also continue.
