Vol. 270 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - EEC Cattle Imports.

2.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he will state (a) the number of live cattle imported into the EEC from non-member countries from the date on which Ireland became a member until December, 1973, (b) the average cost per kilo or cwt paid for these cattle, (c) the number of cattle carcases so imported and the price per kilo or cwt, (d) the number of pigs, live and carcase, so imported and the price and (e) the names of the exporting and importing countries in each case.

I regret that the information requested is not yet available for the period in question.

A similar question was asked recently and answered by the Taoiseach and the Parliamentary Secretary to the Taoiseach said the statistics would be available—I am not sure whether he said in the near future—at a not too distant date. Could the Minister tell me when the statistics from the EEC might be available?

The statistics for January to June should be available within a week or so.
