Vol. 270 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fishery Conservation.

89.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he will help any scientific research into the salmon, lobster and herring fishing industries which are aimed at conservation.

I am prepared to consider any proposal in this field which is brought to my attention.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary see to it that the Department give some incentive in this regard?

Of course. Research work is being carried on. Any proposals from anybody which are deemed to be worthwhile are gratefully received and examined. In general, scientific research work on salmon, lobster and herring is being done by the officers of the Fisheries Division who have the required professional qualifications. Any suggestions that come to the Department are being examined. The Department are quite ready to acknowledge and to act on any constructive criticisms.
