Vol. 270 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Valentia Radio Station.

74.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he will make arrangements to boost the power of Valentia radio station, County Kerry to enable it to link up with ships passing along the south coast, as at present when the ships pass Dursey Head going eastwards all contact with them is lost and they are dependent on English stations for contact, with a consequent loss of revenue to the State.

The power of Valentia radio station is restricted by international regulations. In any event, an increase in the power of the station would have no significant effect on its coverage. The difficulties of contact with the station from certain areas off the south coast are due to its situation in relation to the topography of the land to the south-east of it.
