Vol. 270 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Irish Shipping Limited.

17.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if the purpose of the policy of keeping Irish Shipping as a viable and profitable semi-State body is to ensure that in the event of an emergency this country will have ships to call on.

The answer is "yes".

I understand that Irish Shipping have disposed of all their tankers. Would it be a good idea to re-examine the advisability of adding a tanker or two to the fleet in view of the difficulties now?

When is the Minister going to do it?

I could not say when. Everything related to the supply of oil and its transportation to this country is being examined at the moment.
