Vol. 270 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mayo Factories.

22.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if any industrialist has been selected by the IDA for the advance factory built at Ballinrobe, County Mayo.

As already announced, a firm called G. W. Abrasives Ltd., will occupy the advance factory in Ballinrobe. They expect to commence production shortly and, I understand, will employ 34 at full production.

23.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if the IDA have any proposals to build a factory at Bangor Erris, County Mayo.

24.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if the IDA have any proposals to build a factory at Keel, Achill, County Mayo.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 23 and 24 together.

In the Industrial Development Authority's regional industrial plans 1973-77, Bangor and Keel have been grouped together and assigned a target of 50 jobs in manufacturing industry.

While I understand that the Industrial Development Authority have no industrial proposals at the moment for Keel, they are negotiating with Mayo County Council for the purchase of a site of almost four acres in Bangor for industrial development.

Three major projects are being considered for the Ballina-Killala area and, if negotiations are successful, they should be of considerable benefit to the region generally.
