Vol. 270 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin School Accommodation.

29.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware of the serious position which exists at St. Paul's primary school, Greenhills, Dublin, due to the lack of accommodation; and if he will indicate how far advanced the plans are for the proposed permanent extension to this school.

30.

asked the Minister for Education the reasons for the delay in having the prefabricated classrooms at St. Paul's primary school, Greenhills, Dublin, which were demolished in September, 1973, reconstructed.

Mr. R. Burke

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 29 and 30 together.

I am aware of the need for additional accommodation at St. Paul's primary school, Greenhills. My Department has authorised the manager to have plans for a permanent extension prepared by her architect. It is understood that the plans are being prepared.

When some of the temporary prefabricated classrooms were damaged by storm last September the conductors of the school examined the question of their early replacement by a permanent building. As a permanent building would take some time to complete, it was decided, after an initial delay, to arrange for reconstruction of the damaged prefabricated classrooms. I am informed that all except two of the classrooms have now been put in order and that the two classrooms needing attention will be ready for occupation within a few weeks.
