Vol. 270 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Athboy Vocational School.

96.

asked the Minister for Education if he will give sanction to Meath Vocational Education Committee to spend £500 in respect of improvements to recreational facilities at Athboy vocational school.

Mr. R. Burke

If a formal application to this effect is received from the vocational education committee it will receive due consideration.

Has the school principal not made an approach to the Minister's Department through the vocational education committee in Navan for this grant?

Mr. R. Burke

The information available to me does not indicate that he has but that does not exclude the possibility. The Deputy is, perhaps, referring to the tarmac, tennis courts and so on?

Mr. R. Burke

We will not have any objection to the proposals provided we get agreement drawn up regarding the occupation and maintenance of the courts.

Would this be a legal agreement?

Mr. R. Burke

Yes. Obviously the Department must safeguard their legal position.

Naturally. If they submit that to his Department fairly soon will the Minister accept it?

Mr. R. Burke

If it has been submitted already or if it is submitted in the near future—I am not in a position to say whether it has or not —I will look into the matter and communicate with the Deputy.
