Vol. 270 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - General Medical Practice Report.

21.

asked the Minister for Health his attitude to the recommendations contained in the Report of the Consultative Council on General Medical Practice.

It would be premature for me to say what is my attitude to the wide and varied recommendations contained in the report, before I have received and considered the views of the many bodies which are concerned with the recommendations made.

Is the Minister inviting the views of interested bodies on the recommendations?

Would the Minister agree that a number of these recommendations might be regarded as urgent and that it would be important that in the near future he take decisions based on those recommendations?

This is a very excellent document which proposes short-and long-term improvements. I do not know the particular suggestion the Deputy has in mind which might be implemented in the near future.

I take it that the Minister does not propose to implement any of these suggestions in the near future?

The Deputy's assumption is entirely wrong.

The Minister will not take decisions.

The Deputy was not very good at taking decisions when he was on this side of the House.

I was very good at taking decisions.

This document was published on the 7th February. I am asking interested parties to consider it and then I will decide what short-term proposals should be implemented.
