Vol. 270 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Optical Services.

38.

asked the Minister for Health if he is prepared to reconsider the decision not to incorporate opticians in the general medical services in view of the fact that optical services available to medical card holders are grossly inadequate; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

As I indicated to the Deputy on 13th December last, it is not my intention at present to introduce an amended scheme for the inclusion of opticians in the provision of ophthalmic services for medical card holders, but I intend to reconsider the matter again at a future date. I may add that my Parliamentary Secretary, Deputy Barry, met representatives of the Association of Ophthalmic Opticians last week to hear their views on this question.
