Vol. 270 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Income Tax Refunds.

104.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state why a delay of 12 months occurred in refunding overpayment of PAYE income tax to a number of persons in the Beara area of West Cork, particularly persons employed casually in the area by Cork County Council during the year ended March, 1973.

The Revenue Commissioners have advised me that they are satisfied that the making of PAYE refunds to taxpayers in the Beara area of West Cork has not been unduly delayed in the tax office. The commissioners are, however, aware of some cases in that area where the repayments sought could not be made promptly because of difficulties experienced in obtaining information and documentation from the taxpayers and their employers.

The Revenue Commissioners are arranging that an explanation of the requirements of the inspector of taxes will be issued to these taxpayers so that refunds of tax overdeducted can be made without delay.
