Vol. 270 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Petrol Tax Revenue.

108.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the amount of extra revenue that has accrued to the Government as a result of the petrol crisis.

I take it that the Deputy is interested in the VAT and customs and excise yields from petrol.

In assessing the Exchequer yield from petrol in the present situation any gain from the additional VAT on higher retail prices must be measured against the fall in VAT and customs and excise duties because of the restrictions on deliveries. The indications are that rather less revenue from petrol is flowing into the Exchequer at present than would be the case under normal conditions. However, precise figures will not be available until the end of the financial year.
