207.

asked the Minister for Education if, in view of the decision of the Governing Body of University College, Cork, to withdraw facilities for the higher diploma in education course from the Mary Immaculate College, Limerick, and the resulting repercussions on the city of Limerick and the region, he will now takes steps to provide sufficient qualified personnel to continue this course.

208.

andMr. Daly asked the Minister for Education if he will inquire into the decision of University College, Cork, to discontinue the Limerick-based course leading to the higher diploma in education.

209.

asked the Minister for Education if he will ensure that the higher diploma in education course in Limerick will not be terminated.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 206, 207, 208 and 209 together.

The decision in relation to the higher diploma in education course in Limerck conducted by University College, Cork, is one for the university college authorities and is not subject to the agreement of the Minister for Education.

Is it not possible that if sufficient subvention were available for University College, Cork, the course might be continued?

That appears to be a separate question.

With respect, I submit that it is a question that arises logically from this series of questions.

It is a separate question.

If I might frame it, then, in a different way. Would the Minister not agree, seeing that the major part of university finance comes from central funds, that he might make an allocation to University College, Cork, for the purpose of continuing and adequately staffing the higher diploma course at Limerick?

I think that is a separate question and one which could be put down appropriately for separate answer.

Questions Nos. 210 and 211 are postponed.
