Vol. 271 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Commission House Grants.

59.

asked the Minister for Lands if the Land Commission will obtain new house grants for houses built on Land Commission farms so that occupiers can obtain normal rates remission on the houses.

Dwelling houses erected by or with the aid of grants from the Land Commission qualify for a graduated rates remission over a period of nine years, provided they have been completed after 31st March, 1969, and comply with the floor area requirements set out in the Housing Act, 1970. Most Land Commission houses comply with these floor area requirements. In cases where they do not comply and the house was completed before 31st March, 1972, the Local Government (Temporary Reduction of Valuation) Act, 1970, provides for a two-thirds remission of rates. These latter remissions are however being phased out and will have ceased as from 31st March, 1976.

Is the Minister satisfied with the design of the houses and, indeed, with the workmanship?

That is a separate question.
