Vol. 271 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions Oral Answers. - County Donegal School.

14.

asked the Minister for Education whether he will make a full statement on the future of Urblereagh national school, Malin, County Donegal.

Mr. R. Burke

Urblereagh school has been reduced to a two-teacher school since March, 1973, because of a decline in the attendance. A survey carried out by my Department indicates that the decline in numbers will continue.

With a view to providing better educational facilities for the children in a larger school unit, my Department have made a proposal to the Reverend Manager that the school be amalgamated with the Malin Head school. I have arranged in consultation with the Reverend Manager, to have an inspector of my Department visit the area and meet parents of the children attending the school to discuss the amalgamation proposals. I shall review the situation following that meeting.
