Vol. 271 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Galway Lands.

18.

asked the Minister for Lands if the Land Commission will acquire the land held by the Christian Brothers reformatory school, at Letterfrack, County Galway and have it divided among the local congests.

(Cavan): The Land Commission are presently carrying out a detailed inspection of the property referred to. Until such time as the report in the matter has been completed and has been considered by the commissioners it is not possible to say what action, if any, would follow.

Would the Minister make sure that these lands are not sold to any person outside the State until the Land Commission have given their decision finally, one way or the other? Further, would the Minister make sure that the people who are about to lose their jobs in this establishment will get some of these lands as well as the local congests if and when the Land Commission take it over?

(Cavan): There are voluntary negotiations going on at the moment. I am not clear from the brief I have whether or not the land is frozen but I will——

Would the Minister be so kind as to send me a letter on the matter?

(Cavan): I will convey the Deputy's recommendation to the commission.
