Vol. 418 No. 7

Written Answers. - County Wexford Roads Status.

Brendan Howlin

Question:

245 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for the Environment if he will provide funds to bring the road from Redmond Square to Park, in County Wexford, which is currently part of the N11, up to standard before it is regraded as a regional road consequent to the Wexford bypass.

No proposals have been received from Wexford County Council for improvement works at this location. In any event, the road grants already allocated absorb all of the funds available to me in the current year and there are no further funds available from which additional grants may now be made.

Question:

246 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for the Environment if he will make an additional allocation to Wexford County Council to upgrade the Larkins Cross to Barnstown section of the N25 road, which is a great danger to road users and children attending Barnstown national school; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I understand that Wexford County Council are examining proposals for the improvement of this stretch of road and my Department has provided £60,000 in road grants between 1991 and 1992 towards the preliminary costs involved. When the local authority's proposals are received in the Department they will be given full consideration. The road grants already allocated absorb all of the funds available to me in the current year and there are no further funds available from which additional grants may now be made.

Question:

247 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for the Environment if he will upgrade the New Ross/Enniscorthy national secondary N79 road to national primary status in view of the growing strategic importance of this link and the huge increase in traffic on this road.

I have no plans to upgrade this road to national primary status.
