Vol. 271 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - European Community Institutes.

27.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will ensure that the institutes of the European Community which may be established in Ireland will, as far as possible, be located in centres other than Dublin.

If the European Communities should decide to establish one of its proposed new institutes or foundations in Ireland, its location will be largely determined by the function of, and facilities required by, the proposed institute or foundation.

How far advanced are negotiations for the establishment of those institutions?

They very. There are a number of them and we are interested in more than one though I am not saying we are likely to get more than one. They are at different stages. It is possible that a decision could be taken on one of them relatively soon.

The Minister said that a month ago.

Yes, and it is now even truer.

Can we take it that within the next month the Minister will make known to us the establishment of such an institution?

I have explained that we are interested in more than one. In respect of one of them the last information I had was that a decision on that might be taken or should be taken or would be taken fairly soon. Whether that decision is in our favour remains to be seen. That I cannot guarantee to the Deputy.

Can the Minister tell us what institution this is and where it will be located?

No, I cannot.

What about Bandon as there is an international clientele down there?

An ideal spot.

Order please. No. 28.

Although the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs thinks it is Red China.
