Vol. 271 No. 7

Written Answers. - Old-Age Pension Applicant.

145.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when an old age pension book will be issued to a person in County Cork (name supplied) in respect of the full old age non-contributory pension.

The person concerned was allowed an old age non-contributory pension at the weekly rate of £5.15 from 7th December, 1973, on the recommendation of the social welfare officer who assessed his weekly means at £4.83 which included £3.87 from earnings. This is the appropriate rate of pension where weekly means exceed £4.00 but do not exceed £5.00. The pension committee subsequently decided that he was entitled to a pension at the weekly rate of £6.15 which is the rate payable to a person whose weekly means do not exceed £4.00.

The social welfare officer appealed against the committee's decision.

The claimant has now furnished a medical certificate, dated 22nd March, 1974, showing that he is incapable of work. Consequently it has been accepted that his weekly means do not exceed £4.00 and a pension at the full weekly rate of £6.15 has been awarded to him from 7th December, 1973. A supplementary pension book covering the increase and arrears of pension have been issued to him.
