Vol. 271 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

7.

Mr. Kitt

asked the Minister for Local Government if his Department has approved the proposed group water supply scheme in respect of Menlough, Ballinasloe, County Galway; and if he will state the present position of the proposed scheme.

The design of the scheme has been approved by my Department and Galway County Council and the group have obtained quotations for the pipes and fittings. I understand that the group are at present examining tenders for the carrying out of the work. When the group appoint a contractor, my Department will estimate the overall cost of the scheme and allocate the appropriate grants.

8.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position in respect of the proposed new water supply for Gort, County Galway.

I approved on 19th September, 1973, the Galway County Council's proposals for the appointment of a consulting engineer to prepare a preliminary report for this scheme.

9.

asked the Minister for Local Government when the Ballintleave group water scheme at Glenbeigh, County Kerry, is likely to start; and if a contractor has been appointed in respect of this scheme.

Work on the Ballint-leave group water supply scheme, Glenbeigh, County Kerry, is well advanced. To date, six of the eight grants allocated have been paid to the group.

10.

asked the Minister for Local Government the reason for the delay in implementing the Rean-Ballinskellings group water scheme, County Kerry; and when it is likely to start.

My Department and Roinn na Gaeltachta have allocated grants for each of the 21 houses in this scheme. I understand that work has not commenced because the group have not yet ordered pipes or selected a contractor to carry out the work involved. Work may commence as soon as appropriate arrangements are made by the group.
