Vol. 271 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers (Resumed). - Sligo Hospital.

17.

asked the Minister for Health if he will consider providing a second operating theatre in Sligo Surgical Hospital where there is a long waiting list of patients.

A second general operating theatre was provided at the County Hospital, Sligo, about two years ago. However when it was commissioned the existing theatre was closed down for renovations. I understand that the necessary work is now almost completed and that the two theatres will be operational towards the end of this month.

Can the Parliamentary Secretary say when the new ENT theatre will be provided?

A meeting has been arranged between the officers of my Department and the officers of the health board for 9th April to discuss the ENT situation.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary agree that there is a necessity for the provision of a separate ENT theatre.

I would indeed.
