Vol. 272 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Local Authority Engineers.

25.

asked the Minister for Labour if he is aware of recent Press publicity regarding possible strike action by local authority engineers from 1st May; and if he will intervene before that date to prevent a repetition of the disruption of work that took place in counties like Cork in 1973.

I am aware of the Press publicity referred to by the Deputy. I am also aware that the Irish Congress of Trade Unions are engaged in discussions with the two unions concerned in an attempt to settle the dispute.

I am satisfied that congress is doing everything possible, under the procedures for dealing with disputes of this kind, to reach a settlement, and I am hopeful that, as a result of the discussions, the dispute will be satisfactorily resolved.
