Vol. 272 No. 4

Written Answers. - School Examination Costs.

140.

asked the Minister for Education the total amounts spent by his Department in respect of the intermediate certificate examination, the group certificate examination and the leaving certificate examination in 1973.

Provision is made in subhead C, Vote 29, for the running expenses of the intermediate and leaving certificate examinations, i.e., remuneration, travelling and maintenance allowances of examiners and superintendents, etc.

A sum of £509,561 was paid out of this subhead in the year ended 31st March, 1974.

Provision is made in subhead F, Vote 30, for the running expenses of the group certificate and technical school examinations.

A sum of £96,007 was paid out of this subhead in the year ended 31st March, 1974.

It is not possible to say precisely how much of this amount related to the group certificate examination, as distinct from the technical school examinations, but it is estimated that about 60 per cent of the amount would so relate.

I wish to raise the subject matter of Question No. 84 of Thursday, 26th April, 1974, on the adjournment.

The Chair will communicate with the Deputy.

I wish to raise the subject matter of Questions Nos. 18 and 19 on the Adjournment.

I will communicate with the Deputy.
