Vol. 272 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Post-Sunningdale Meeting.

1.

asked the Taoiseach when the meeting of representatives of the Governments of Ireland and the United Kingdom and of the Northern Ireland Executive, following the meeting at Sunningdale in December, 1973, will take place.

Consultations with the other parties to Sunningdale are proceeding with a view to the early implementation of the arrangements mentioned in the agreed communiqué. When these consultations are completed, the date for the meeting mentioned in the question will be fixed.

May I suggest to the Taoiseach that in view of the proven capacity of our security forces in relation to many major incidents in the recent past, and more particularly in relation to the discovery of the stolen art treasures, he might suggest to the British that the second conference might take place in this country without any apprehension on their part as to their security?

I will certainly bear that in mind and I am glad to have the Deputy's support for the idea.
