Vol. 272 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sligo Housing.

4.

asked the Minister for Local Government if it is the intention of the NBA to build another scheme of houses in Sligo town.

I understand from the National Building Agency that they intend to provide a further scheme of houses for industrial workers in Sligo and are investigating the suitability of a site at present. Work is nearing completion on an agency scheme of 100 houses for Sligo Corporation at Abbeyquarter, and work has been commenced by them on a further scheme of 105 houses for the corporation under the Government's emergency supplementary housing programme.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary say how many houses will be included in the new scheme?

There will be approximately 70 houses if the site is suitable.

Will they be separate and distinct from the 100 local authority houses that are completed and the 105 houses being erected now?

These houses will be built on a site which the North-Western Health Board have given to the NBA.

Can the Parliamentary Secretary state when the scheme will commence?

Borings are taking place at the moment. If the site is found satisfactory, I shall then be in a better position to answer that question.

Will the scheme be commenced within a few months?

I could not say.

In view of the shortage of houses in Sligo and the number of people on the waiting list——

I have given the Deputy a lot of latitude on this question.

We gave the Chair a lot of latitude also——

It was not the fault of the Chair. The Chair had to await the attendance of a quorum here. I am calling Question No. 5.
