Vol. 272 No. 12

Maintenance Orders Bill, 1974: First Stage.

Leave granted to introduce a Bill entitled an Act to make provision in relation to the reciprocal recognition and enforcement of maintenance orders as between the State and Northern Ireland, England and Wales and Scotland.
—(Minister for Justice.)

Will similar legislation be promoted in Britain at the same time?

I am advised that similar legislation is not required in Britain. In the British system an Order in Council will have the same effect as the legislation in this Parliament.

Will the reciprocal enforcement of these orders come in simultaneously?

There will be agreement between the two countries following the enactment of the Order in Council and the legislation here.

Second Stage ordered for Tuesday, 4th June, 1974.
