asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if the IDA have yet accepted tenders for the erection of an advance factory at Edenderry, County Offaly; if so, if a contract has been allotted and when work will commence; the area of the factory in square feet; and if he will make a statement in the matter.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 23 and 24 together.

I understand that the Industrial Development Authority have placed a contract for the construction of advance factories in Edenderry and Portarlington.

Subject to planning permission being obtained, work is expected to commence on both factories in July next. The Edenderry factory will have a floor area of 21,528 square feet, and the Portarlington factory will have a floor area of 25,187 square feet.
