Vol. 273 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Development of Dublin Site.

81.

asked the Minister for Finance the use to which the site at Haddington Road and Northumberland Road, Dublin, will be put since it has been decided not to provide a concert hall there.

Mr. Kenny

A decision on the future use of the site at Haddington Road-Northumberland Road, on part of which it had been suggested that the Kennedy Memorial Hall should be built, has not yet been taken. Portion of the site is occupied by inhabited houses, while the remainder is, for the most part, occupied by the offices and stores of the Stationery Office.

Is the site the property of the State? Does the whole site belong to the State?

Mr. Kenny

From the information I have here, it is the property of the State. It will be located at Beggars Bush on an area bounded by Haddington Road and Northumberland Road. The Government's decision must be considered from the view-point of its possible impact on the site which has been tentatively earmarked for use for concert hall purposes. At present there are buildings, offices, stores and occupied houses in this area, and any proposals that may be formulated will have to take this factor into account. It does not say here whether it is Government property, but I think it must be.

Question No. 82 postponed.
