Vol. 273 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Articulated Vehicle Accidents.

28.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the frequency of accidents involving container-carrying articulated vehicles; and if, in view of the danger to public safety, he will introduce legislation governing the securing of such containers, mainly milk tanks, to the trucks.

The statistical analysis of road accidents published annually by An Foras Forbartha does not show whether or not articulated vehicles involved in accidents were carrying containers.

Legal requirements as to the securing of loads on vehicles are contained in article 96 of the Road Traffic (Construction, Equipment and Use of Vehicles) Regulations, 1963.
