Vol. 273 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Imported Tyres.

2.

asked the Taoiseach the quantity and value of all new and used tyres imported in the year ended 31st March, 1974.

In the 12 months ended March, 1974, 882,000 new tyres, valued £4,382,000, and 435,000 used tyres, valued £374,000, were imported into the country.

Could the Parliamentary Secretary give the comparative figures for the corresponding period in the previous year?

I have the figures for the year ended March, 1973. In that year there are no separate figures for new and used tyres. If the Deputy wants the global figure it was 1,059,000 tyres valued at £3,739,000.

Why has the importation of used tyres increased?

I do not know if they have increased. As I said, I have no separate figures for the year ended March, 1973, because they were not compiled in that way at that time.
