Vol. 273 No. 5

Ceisteanna-Questions. Oral Answers. - Cattle Export Refunds.

8.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries the effect, if any, the decision of the EEC to increase export refunds will have on the cattle trade.

The increases, which apply to live adult cattle, chilled and frozen beef, at a current rate of £5.65 per 100 kg live weight for cattle and corresponding rates for chilled and frozen beef, will help to that extent the export trade possibilities to the third countries concerned, namely, countries in Eastern Europe, the Middle-East and the Mediterranean area. The actual results for Irish exports and the cattle trade, however, depend on international beef market developments generally.
