Vol. 273 No. 7

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork Industry.

17.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the progress that has been made towards the establishment of industry in the Ballincollig area of County Cork; and if he is yet in a position to state the nature of any such development and the employment content.

I have been informed by the Industrial Development Authority that a proposal for a major industry to employ about 500 people is at present at an advanced stage of negotiation. Until a final decision is reached in the matter, however, I am not in a position, for reasons of confidentiality, to give details of the project.

I also understand that in order to encourage further the establishment of industry in the area the construction of a 42,000 square feet factory at Ballincollig will commence later this month.

Does the Minister mean an advance factory?

Yes. Well, it is much bigger than the normal advance factory; it is 42,000 square feet but it is an advance factory in the sense that there is not an occupant for it and its construction is starting this month.
