Vol. 273 No. 7

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Deserted Wife's Allowance.

32.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when he will reduce the desertion period before a wife becomes eligible for deserted wife's allowance or benefit.

Regulations have now been made reducing from six months to three the period for which a wife must have been deserted before she can become eligible for deserted wife's allowance or benefit. These regulations will also remove the requirement that the deserted wife make efforts to prevail on her husband to resume living with her.

The regulations will come into operation on the 1st July, 1974.
