Vol. 273 No. 7

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Housing Loans.

34.

asked the Minister for Local Government the number of new houses which are the subject of loan applications for the period 1st January to 31st March, 1974; and the number for the corresponding period last year.

Statistics of the applications for new house loans made to lending agencies in the form requested by the Deputy are not available in my Department. The numbers of loan applications for new and other houses on hands of the agencies at the 31st December, 1973, and the 31st March, 1974, were 19,847 and 20,836 respectively.

For the corresponding period one year earlier, the figures were 17,812 and 17,701.

Can the Minister state when the money will be paid to local authorities?

Obviously the Deputy is not aware that local authorities in the last 12 months paid out £28 million under SDA loans as compared with £13 million the previous year.

Loans are not available from the local authority in South Tipperary. Will the Minister tell the House why they are not available?

If the Deputy wants to put down a question on the matter and if he thinks it is the truth he should put down a question. That matter has nothing to do with Question No. 34.

Of course it has.

I am calling Question No. 35.
