asked the Minister for Local Government if any studies have been undertaken as to how the coasts of the country can best be developed without damage to natural amenities.

I would refer the Deputy to the National Coastline Study commissioned by An Foras Forbartha and Bord Fáilte Éireann at the request of the Ministers for Local Government and Transport and Power, Volume I of which was published in October, 1972, and Volumes II and III in September and October, 1973, respectively.
The study makes recommendations for the utilisation of our coastline which are intended to ensure a satisfactory balance between development needs and conservation requirements. While the study is advisory, the planning authorities concerned have been urged to give consideration to the recommendations in the review of their development plans and in the exercise of development control.
