Vol. 273 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Laois Sewerage Pump.

3.

asked the Minister for Local Government if, in respect of the sewerage pump at Droughill, Portarlington, County Laois, he will state (a) why it is not working properly, (b) why it is not an automatic pump, (c) why there is a nauseating odour rising from it affecting some 40 adjoining dwelling houses and (d) why Laois County Council have not taken action in regard to the pumping station which has been out of order for the past three months.

The maintenance of a sewerage system provided by a local authority is a matter entirely for the local authority concerned. I understand that the Laois County Council has in hands the necessary investigations at the location mentioned with a view to carrying out any remedial works needed.
