Vol. 274 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ground Rent Payments.

2.

asked the Taoiseach the approximate amount of money sent out of the country each year by way of ground rent payments.

The information requested by the Deputy is not available.

May I take it that the Government do not know what money is leaving the country?

No. The Deputy may not take it that way. The situation is that there are returns available to the Central Statistics Office of the annual balance of payments which give the outflow from the country in the form of income from investments. The income which arises from ground rents is not listed separately.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary try to secure the information for a future question?

The Central Statistics Office say it is not possible to identify these explicitly but I will certainly ask how deep the impossibility goes.
