Vol. 274 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Planning Appeals.

11.

asked the Minister for Local Government if in respect of Counties Kerry, Donegal, Galway and Meath he will indicate in each case the total number of planning appeals processed and of these the number granted and the number refused for the period 1st April, 1973, to date.

The number of appeal cases formally decided in the period 1st April, 1973 to 31st May, 1974 for the counties in question was 743. As the examination of all these cases to ascertain to what extent each appeal was "successful" would take a very considerable amount of staff time, I propose to give figures showing for each county the numbers of appeal cases formally decided, the number where permission was granted with or without conditions and the number where permission was refused. As the reply is in the form of a tabular statement, I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to circulate the statement with the Official Report.

Following is the statement:

NUMBER of planning appeal cases formally decided, the number granted and the number refused for the period 1st April, 1973 to 31st May, 1974, in respect of Counties Kerry, Donegal, Galway and Meath.

Note: The number of appeal cases shown in column 2 does not include those where appeals were invalid or withdrawn. It should be understood that the decisions indicated in columns 3 and 4 do not necessarily indicate the extent to which appeals were or were not “successful”. An appeal by a third party against the grant of permission may result in confirmation of the permission or variation of its terms. In some cases there may have been more than one appeal, e.g. by the applicant against conditions and by a third party against a grant of permission.
