Vol. 274 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Beef Incentive Scheme.

3.

andMr. Daly asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he is aware of general dissatisfaction among farmers at the delay in the second inspection under the beef cattle incentive scheme; and if he will arrange to bring forward the date of such inspection.

4.

andMr. Calleary asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he is aware that farmers in County Mayo are concerned about the delay in carrying out beef subsidy tests; and if he will take steps to ensure that the procedure followed in 1973 will be improved.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 3 and 4 together.

I am aware of the desirability to have all inspections under the beef cattle incentive scheme completed as early as possible. The first round is now almost completed and the second round should commence in all counties by about the beginning of August. This is several weeks earlier than in any previous year.
