Vol. 274 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Post-primary School Facilities.

41.

asked the Minister for Education the post-primary school facilities that are available to the pupils who have attended special classes in primary schools.

At post-primary level, pupils who have attended special classes in primary schools need a broad curriculum which includes a variety of practical activities, as well as further training in and use of basic educational skills and social and prevocational training. Usually, this type of curriculum can best be provided in vocational schools which as a rule cater for both boys and girls and where the necessary teaching skills and facilities are available.

The experience to date is that the conductors of second-level schools, whether vocational education committees or otherwise, co-operate fully with my Department in ensuring that the best educational facilities which can be provided are, in fact, being made available for pupils who have been in special classes at primary level.

The remaining questions will appear on tomorrow's Order Paper.
