Vol. 274 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork Forest Fire.

22.

asked the Minister for Lands the estimated cost to the State of the forest fire that occurred at the Killavullen plantation, County Cork, and that ravaged upwards of 80 acres of forestry; the estimated cost of replacing the burnt trees; and the manner in which the fire originated.

Cavan): It is assumed that the Deputy is referring to a fire which occurred on 21st March, 1973, at Killavullen Forest in the course of protective burning which was being carried out by personnel of the Forest and Wildlife Service of my Department. The fire damaged 89 acres of forest the value of which, including planting, maintenance and other costs, was estimated at £2,929.

The cost of replanting the area is about £2,000.
