Vol. 274 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Pike and Perch Elimination.

6.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries the steps that are being taken to eliminate pike and perch from trout rivers and lakes.

The Inland Fisheries Trust, which is the body responsible for the development of brown trout fishing, engages in intensive pike and perch removal programmes in the control of predation by these species on brown trout stocks.

Could the Parliamentary Secretary say if they are gaining or losing in the removal or reduction in numbers of these fishes?

I think they are winning the battle here.
