Vol. 274 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Industry for Kenmare.

51.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the steps that are being taken by his Department to provide industry for the Kenmare-Sneem area of County Kerry; and if his Department will carry out a survey of the labour available in this area.

I have been informed that the Industrial Development Authority in conjunction with the local authority are at present seeking land for industrial development in Kenmare, which is one of the locations for industry specified in the Regional Industrial Plans 1973-77 for the South West region. In Sneem, an industry to employ 30 at full production in the manufacture of soft toys was approved for grant assistance by the Authority and commenced production in May last.

I understand that the National Manpower Service is to carry out a labour survey in County Kerry, including the Kenmare-Sneem area, and is currently having consultations with the Industrial Development Authority on the industrial aspects of the survey.
