Vol. 274 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dangerous Wall.

52.

asked the Minister for Finance when a dangerous wall at St. Mary's Avenue, The Ranch, Ballyfermot, Dublin, will be repaired or removed.

Mr. Kenny

The removal of this wall is a matter for Dublin Corporation and they will be reminded that it is desirable to have the work attended to without delay.

Is it not correct to say that this wall will be a boundary wall of the proposed new golf course and therefore the Office of Public Works should be concerned to make sure that it is high enough so that people will not be able to gatecrash into it?

Mr. Kenny

It is a railing that is in question. I will give the Deputy the information I have here. In 1972, a railing was erected by the Commissioners of Public Works along the boundary of the Phoenix Park extension to St. Mary's Avenue, The Ranch, Ballyfermot. The railing was intended to replace an existing stone wall which had been breached in a number of places and was generally in a poor condition. Dublin Corporation had asked that the wall should be replaced by a railing in order to improve the environment of The Ranch. The corporation also requested that the railing should be set back about four feet from the wall so that a footpath could be constructed alongside it. The commissioners agreed to this on condition that the corporation would remove the wall and construct the footpath at their own expense. Although the railing has been in position for over a year, the corporation have made no move to carry out their part of the agreement. They will be pressed to have the wall removed as soon as possible.
