asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will make a statement on the progress made at the Conference on the Law of the Sea; and the Government policy on the matter.

The first session of the Law of the Sea Conference was held in New York at the end of 1973 and dealt only with organisational matters.

The second session, which is at present in progress in Caracas, Venezuela, is dealing with substantive matters and detailed work in the various committees began when the general debate ended. Work will continue until 29th August.

It is already envisaged that a third session will take place next year.
