asked the Minister for Defence if he has received a proposal for the demolition of Boyle military barracks, County Roscommon; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The portions of this property in my Department's administration are used for military purposes.

Roscommon County Council recently applied for the purchase of these portions to provide improved parking facilities in the area. Arrangements are being made for a discussion of the matter between representatives of the council and the Department.

So far as the Irish Army is concerned, it is reliably estimated that with its present effective size it could, if called upon——

Is the Deputy seeking information or imparting it?

——hold a town the size of Newry. Can the Minister comment on the late liberal Dr. O'Brien's statement?

I am not prepared to comment on any security matter.
