asked the Minister for Education if he will give details of each visit to a foreign country undertaken since 31st March, 1974, including the overall cost of such visit and the advantage for this country arising therefrom.

The information sought by the Deputy is given in the form of a tabular statement which, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to circulate with the Official Report.

Following is the statement:

1. Minister for Education



28 April-10 May, 1974

Vienna—to represent Government at Austrian President's funeral.

Rome—Private Audience with the Pope and educational activities.

Rio de Janeiro—Visit to Brazil at invitation of Brazilian Government in his capacity as Minister with responsibility for Sport.

London—Visits to educational and cultural establishments.

The combined cost of these visits was £340.

5-7 June, 1974

Luxembourg—to attend meeting of EEC Ministers.

(Cost £47).

17-26 October, 1974

Paris—to attend meeting of UNESCO.

(Final cost not yet available; approximate cost £468.)

2. Parliamentary Secretary to Minister for Education



19-24 May, 1974

To England—for discussions regarding provision being made in England in areas for which the Parliamentary Secretary has responsibility here.

(Cost £256).

The advantages of such visits are that they enable the Minister and Parliamentary Secretary to keep abreast of developments in other countries and exchange views with their counterparts in these countries.
