Vol. 276 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Test Borings.

19.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he will make arrangements whereby his Department will pay for test borings carried out by Tralee and Fenit Harbour Board, County Kerry.

I understand that the test borings in question were carried out by the Tralee and Fenit Pier and Harbour Commissioners in connection with the design of a major scheme of improvements to the commercial harbour facilities at Fenit, a grant for which would be a matter for the Minister for Transport and Power.

However, my Department are examining proposals for improvements at the Centre Quay section of the harbour which is used by the fishing fleet and for which trial borings would also need to be carried out. If the Office of Public Works advise my Department that the test borings already carried out provide the information required in relation to the Centre Quay section, I will consider the making of a contribution towards that part of the cost incurred in respect of the Centre Quay section.

Hear, hear.

Acting Chairman

The remaining Questions will appear on tomorrow's Order Paper.
