Vol. 276 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Redundant Workers.

1.

asked the Minister for Labour the number of workers who have been declared redundant in the past year; and if it is proposed to increase the price of the redundancy stamp to meet the increased outgoings.

The number of qualified redundancies notified by employers for the purposes of the redundancy payments scheme during the 12-month period ended 1st November, 1974, was 10,145. As at 31st October, 1974, there was an estimated credit balance of £263,000 in the Redundancy Fund to meet current liabilities. I would not envisage an increase in the contribution while the fund continues in credit but, if it should be necessary to increase the rate of contribution, I shall do so.
