Vol. 276 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Local Authority Plans.

56.

asked the Minister for Local Government if each local authority has prepared or adopted a plan which has been approved by him as required by the Local Government (Planning and Development) Act, 1963.

The making or review of development plans as required under Part III of the Local Government (Planning and Development) Act, 1963, is a reserved function of local authorities and such plans do not require my approval. All authorities have adopted plans.

I take it from the Minister's reply that the making of such plans is the job of the local authority?

Will the Minister ensure that the interpretation of the plans is the business of the local authority from now on?

The Deputy obviously has the same difficulty as I have about the administration of planning law. It only comes to me by way of an appeal. I cannot tell each local authority how to administer their plans but I can understand the Deputy's view.

If it is convenient to the Ministers concerned I should like the remainder of my questions to be put back until next Tuesday.

Questions Nos. 57 and 58 are postponed.
